Breaking news: The WB and UPN to merge [Jan. 24th, 2006|10:03 am]
Monchichi
[Current Mood |worriedworried]

It was annouced early today that The WB and UPN will merge to create The CW Network starting this Fall 2006.

At this point it is up in the air as to what the network will air, but the press release did make mention of "Everybody Hates Chris," "Gilmore Girls," "Top Model," "Girlfriends," "Veronica Mars," and "Smallville," along with the shit that is "Smackdown."

What about "Related" or "Supernatural" or "Charmed" or "One Tree Hill" or "Everwood"?

What is going to happen? This is really worrying me.

Favorite Piece of Chain Mail [Jan. 8th, 2006|11:42 am]
Monchichi
[Current Music |Reefer Madness the musical]

This has been circulating around e-mail for some time. It is one of my favorite so I love to post it any time I see it.

I am the girl kicked out of her home because I confided in my mother that I am a lesbian.

I am the prostitute working the streets because nobody will hire a transsexual woman.

I am the sister who holds her gay brother tight through the painful, tear- filled nights.

We are the parents who buried our daughter long before her time.

I am the man who died alone in the hospital because they would not let my partner of twenty-seven years into the room.

I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I
wish they could adopt me.

I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. I survived the attack that left me in a coma for three weeks, and in another year I will probably be able to walk again.

I am not one of the lucky ones. I killed myself just weeks before graduating high school. It was simply too much to bear.

We are the couple who had the realtor hang up on us when she found out we wanted to rent a one-bedroom for two men.

I am the person who never knows which bathroom I should use if I want to avoid getting the management called on me.

I am the mother who is not allowed to even visit the children I bore, nursed, and raised. The court says I am an unfit mother because I now live with another woman.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.

I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men.

I am the home-economics teacher who always wanted to teach gym until someone told me that only lesbians do that.

I am the man who died when the paramedics stopped treating me as soon as they realized I was transsexual.

I am the teenager who hides it from his friends because he is worried they won't love him for who he is.

I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I didnt have to always deal with society hating me.

I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don't believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind.

I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love.

dad's say the dumbest things [Jan. 6th, 2006|12:15 pm]

Just another day in the Calivo house:

We open with a shot of the Calivo family, sans Kehau, having dinner. Conversation turns to Miko, who has been out and about the whole week and hasn't really conversed with anyone in his family since Monday.

Dad wants to know how the St. Luke reunion dinner went. Miko says it was a lot of fun. Dad keeps pushing the issue because of the way Miko always complained about the experience. Miko says the past is the past. This reunion was meeting old friends for the first time.

Then Mom comments that there are three gay kids from our class. Dad wants to know how. Miko answers, Sean, Nick and Miko.

And in true Alf style, Dad says, "You don't know what you are."

Why does this shit only happen to me? What did I do to get a father who exists for the soul purpose of annoying the crap out of me.

Superbowl XL [Dec. 30th, 2005|11:57 am]

What business does this gay man have with the Superbowl?

To be honest I don't really watch football but since the Seahawks are doing very well this year (so I've been told) I have been paying closer attention than normal.

Usually I'm just in it for the entertainment. This year, I might be in it for the Seahawks. We'll just have to see.

But NFL Entertainment has made some announcements for some of the performers we'll see at the show.

Pre-Game Show: Stevie Wonder

Halftime Show: Rolling Stones

So far so good? Except for the minor controversy the Detroit people have created. They feel that Motown music should have been considered for the Halftime Show and not the Stones. The Superbowl is, afterall, in Detroit. Oh well.

Don't miss the Superbowl on February 5, 2006!

Disney just announced that they will start production on a new animated version of Winnie the Pooh.

Why is this news for a 19-year-old guy like me?

Disney has decided that they will be eliminating Christopher Robin and replacing him with a young female character who does not yet have a name.

So, kiss goodbye Christopher Robin because he and Pooh are no longer friends. Nada. Zip. Done.

Cruise ship evades pirates [Nov. 5th, 2005|09:48 pm]
Monchichi
Check out this story that the AP sent out:

NAIROBI, Kenya - Pirates armed with grenade launchers and machine guns tried to hijack a luxury cruise liner off the east African coast Saturday, but the ship outran them, officials said.

Two boats full of pirates approached the Seabourn Spirit about 100 miles off the Somali coast and opened fire while the heavily armed bandits tried to get onboard, said Bruce Good, spokesman for the Miami-based Seabourn Cruise Line, a subsidiary of Carnival Corp.

The ship escaped by shifting to high speed and changing course.

“These are very well-organized pirates,” said Andrew Mwangura, head of the Kenyan chapter of the Seafarers Assistance Program. “Somalia’s coastline is the most dangerous place in the region in terms of maritime security.”

The attackers never got close enough to board the Spirit, but one member of the 161-person crew was injured by shrapnel, cruise line president Deborah Natansohn said.

The vessel’s 151 passengers, mostly Americans with some Australians and Europeans, were gathered in a lounge for their safety, Good said. None were injured.

“Our suspicion at this time is that the motive was theft,” Good said, adding that the crew had been trained for “various scenarios, including people trying to get on the ship that you don’t want on the ship.”

The British news agency Press Association said passengers awoke to the sound of gunfire as two 25-foot inflatable boats approached the liner.

Ship’s speed surprises passengers
Edith Laird of Seattle, who was traveling with her daughter and a friend, told the British Broadcasting Corp. in an e-mail that her daughter saw the pirates out the window.

“There were at least three rocket-propelled grenades that hit the ship, one in a state room,” Laird wrote. “We had no idea that this ship could move as fast as it did and (the captain) did his best to run down the pirates.”

The Spirit was bound for Mombasa, Kenya, at the end of a 16-day voyage from Alexandria, Egypt. It was expected to reach the Seychelles on Monday, and then continue on its previous schedule to Singapore, company officials said.

The 440-foot-long, 10,000-ton cruise ship, which is registered in the Bahamas, sustained minor damage, Good said. The liner, which had its maiden voyage in 1989, can accommodate 208 guests.

“They took some fire, but it’s safe to sail,” he said.

There has been a steep rise in piracy this year along Somalia’s nearly 2,000-mile coastline, with 15 violent incidents reported between March and August, compared with just two for all of 2004, according to the International Maritime Bureau, a division of the International Chamber of Commerce that tracks trends in piracy.

In June, a U.N.-chartered ship carrying 935 tons of rice for Somali victims of the Asian tsunami was hijacked by pirates, who held crew members hostage for three months before releasing them.

Somalia has had no effective central government since opposition leaders ousted dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991. The leaders then turned on each other, transforming this nation of 7 million into a patchwork of battling fiefdoms ruled by heavily armed militias.
